Yeh, ignoring my own typically brilliant advice and chucking lots of things out meself, or giving 'em to charities or Freecycle if not total crap. Nice young lady came the other day and took my old barbecue and two boxes of garden tiles. Check value before you chuck it though, found my old Dyon Parker LP was worth £100 the other day. Can buy a few drinks with that.

Who on Earth is KJ? Think demonic non-existent singers are possessing you.

Alcoholic Old Farts Anonymous here. Not sure you're about not throwing things away. I went rooting recently through the boxes of stuff I saved from my divorce in 2006, hoping to find that the younger me had been sensible in his choices.

Books. A precious few hundred out of the thousands I had accumulated, but even so a lot of goddam BOOKS I'll never read again.

Vinyl. I haven't got a record player, and won't ever be getting one, so they're all a waste of space.

CDs. I took the ones I really wanted to my new flat, so what I saved in the boxes are the ones I didn't want to listen to. And still don't.

Le Creuset casseroles and a set of very expensive Japanese lacquer and ceramic bowls. Little did the newly-divorced me realise that I would spend the rest of my working days living stew cooked up once a week or so in a big cheap non-stick stockpot and reheated daily until black. And after retirement, Kattomeat sandwiches to look forward to. Casseroles indeed. Japanese indeed.

Two AA medals, one for 24 hours of sobriety, one for six months. Both proudly collected in 1992. No medals for spending the next 21 years permanently soused, though, which deserves an award of sorts for sheer endurance.

Next time I get divorced (have to get married again first, obviously, details details) I'm going to throw everything out including myself so I've nothing to remind me of what an idiot I used to be.

Ohhhh, Boney M and the Rivers of Babylon! The Melodians were pretty excellent but Boney M, even though they didn't actually sing it, or even be'ed themselves, as it was all done by a Kraut called Frank, are still the greatest.

Good morning. Apologies for the extended absence. Yes, thank you, mostly okay anyway. I'm still living, and at my age that's a plus all by itself. I haven't been posting because I've been waiting for the other shoe to hit the floor. It hasn't yet but I can see it falling now, so I'll be posting on that today.

Funny you mention about throwing things away. I used to live up in No. Calif. where they grow all that marijuana, and a rumor somehow started up there that the Budweiser brewing company was giving money to the effort by the authorities to wipe out the planting. So Budweiser sent a letter to the local newspaper assuring them in no uncertain terms that NO, they were not doing any such thing. I was shown the letter after publication and asked if I could keep it since they were going to toss it out. I still have it, that was about 30 years ago and I'm thinking it might fetch a pretty good price today. One person's trash.....

Not so much fun at the club watching a movie of someone dying of cancer, eh? Hmm. Who would not want to sit and drink while watching a jolly thing like that? Those folks know how to party! Personally I had to give up drinking, it interfered with my vision, having to separate out all those multiple images all the time.

Enjoyed the music. Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, what wonderful music. I have all their stuff either on vinyl, tape and cd, plus my PC.
Now off to compose a happy little harbinger of Obama's future machinations for Newsbleat.

Another daft African idea Mr Sheep is "Pastors" curing things by laying on of hands, not exactly bright for Ebola. We already have that African idiocy going on in the UK, 'spect you do too.

It occurs to me too that, while we do not have the obvious problems of Africa, there are still a lot of ways to spread germs. Yep – mine is NGD and I’m a married man. Doesn’t Mrs Pikey Scum come round on Sundays? It’s obvious then.

Re vodka – let me know if you need mid-week (or any time) company; your place or mine.

AND Mr BS – the more cases there are the more chance of mutating to airborne transmission – there is already evidence (dubious admitted) that it can cross species (pig and monkey) through the air.

And I get worried when graphs go exponential. Anyway we are due a plague, been a long time coming.

Hope you're right but I doubt it. If it has spread in Spain among staff where all precautions should have been in place it could happen elsewhere.

One problem cited is that some ascribe the illness to witchcraft so don't seek proper help soon enough. If we let an infected black person into the UK or the US he will go to African areas where there are similar stupid beliefs. Just recently we have had news of yet another expensive initiative to tackle abuse of children in witchcraft rituals. WTF we are doing letting in people like that I have no idea.

They should stop passengers, apart from properly checked aid staff, coming from that area.

There is no ebola crisis. The damn bug raised it's head way back in last March and the current estimate is maybe 4000 have died over the intervening 7 months, in a really poor part of the world that lacks clean drinking water and anything close to decent sanitary practices, where flies swarm all over both the food and the people in the markets, and they all engage in the practice of putting their hands all over their dead. Yet less than 4000 have died.

What the flap is about is beyond me. True that the death rate from ebola is around 50% of those infected, but I believe several million die there every year from malaria spread by mosquitoes. A little soap on the water would stop all that.

Ebola should be filed away with Global Warming as a bogus non-issue. NASA now tells us that NO, the Earth is actually COOLING because our Sun is in a 30 year cooling cycle and sending the Earth less heat. Hmm. Sounds like we could use some artificially created global warming........

I have a 1960 recording of Louis Armstrong and his All Stars playing on a pier in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, made by a shipmate of mine, very illegally and surreptitiously. I was on one of two US Navy ships tied up there and they came and gave us a concert.

So you're going to Turkey with the religious fanatic? I hear Turkey is a fun place now since it was taken over by Islamists. Hope you have a grand time and don't forget to wear your yarmulke. Just kidding. I want you to come back home again.

Anyway, drinking copiously, I don't generally these day but have this weekend. Usual Sunday visit by nice lady next door (Mrs Pikey Scum) has topped me up.

Anyway, going to Turkey with religious lady soon (she didn't dump me after all) but we must have a copious drinking meet sometime.

I see that the Jew-hating Guardian is happily bashing away at Israel again over the civilian casualties in Gaza. They accept every statement and every hoked-up, staged photo the terrorists offer up as being Gospel Truth, and happily repeat the UN mantra declaring Israel to be the worst, nastiest, most evil people on the planet.

With great friends like that, Israel doesn't even need enemies.

What the Israelis are going to have to do is occupy Gaza long enough to totally dismantle and eradicate Hamas and put in place a peaceful form of government, and that means they would have to be there for years. The daunting logistics of such a task is the only reason I can think of why they keep accepting peace treaties that they know Hamas is going to break, yet each time they retreat after trouncing the terrorists, the terrorists come back ever stronger. One day they're going to have to ignore all the international outcry crap and do the deed. Either that or this stuff will escalate to the point that only all-out war and massive loss of life will end it.

There's a Liberal Media anti-Israel campaign going on in this country similar to the crap the Guardian is pushing, and Obama is clearly siding with the terrorists against Israel just as the Guardian is.

Don't any of these people understand that Israel will use her nukes if pushed to the brink, or is that the plan? It makes an old ram wonder.

Not that it really needed all that much but the company I have showing up tomorrow might not understand my point of view. No mold in the corners or dead rats in the pantry, mind you, just mostly a lot of clutter. Leaving things lying about is the easiest way to find them when you have as much miscellaneous crap as I do. So now everything is tidied up, and after they leave I'll spend days cussing and swearing because I can't find this or that.

Racism in England... Looks to me like you don't have enough of it, rather than too much. The Polish skinheads were just having fun in their own fashion and the Jew who got his beanie knocked askew... hard to call that an "attack". Re: Tony Blair and his bad breath, the whole problem with the Middle East is that there's way too much oil there and the place is crawling with Muslims. Do you recall the Neutron Bomb? An atomic bomb that's clean, a variant of the Hydrogen Bomb. It doesn't wreck anything. When it goes off it puts out massive quantities of neutrons, those heavy parts of atoms that go right through everything like zillions of teensy tiny needles, and when they go through living flesh, every cell they pierce is killed, but the real estate is unharmed.

So those exposed to such a bomb blast simply start leaking body fluids all over, and die.

And there you have my solution to the Muslim/Oil problem. Get rid of all the Muslims, take all the oil, no problem. How soon can we start?

Your Polly Toynbee makes a good point, the problem is that it's only words and will never be more than only words. There is zero chance that any Islamic faith school will ever refrain from teaching Islam and jamming that death credo down the throats of the hapless children. Trying to force faith schools to not promote their faith will result in only the Christian schools complying, with the result that the Muslims will have won another round.

Sounds like you're going into overload on the Nigerians and/or Muslims. Over here it's fecking Mexicans, and we're really overrun with them. One thing I did before buying a home here was Google the local demographics, and was happy to find that there's very few "Hispanics" here. You drive the 40 miles or so down out of the mountains into Bakersfield and they're everygoddamwhere. But not here. We have lots of methamphetamine addicts here to make up for that, but those are literally everywhere now and it doesn't matter where you are. You can live in a high-end gated community and not have but a few bad drug addicts, but outside those gates and walls, there they are.

The world is going to shit in a hurry, my friend. Makes me glad I am where I am, small, isolated mountain communities will be the last to fall. What is happening to areas like mine, though, is economic collapse. Like most others, this small community depends a lot on the income from summer tourism. Fishing at the lake and camping. But with the economy in the toilet and flushing, people don't have the money for such pleasures. My first summer here, the main thoroughfare was heavy with traffic on the weekends. This summer there's almost none.
